What To Expect During Your Birth Photography Session
Hey mama! If you're thinking about hiring a birth photographer (or already have—yay!), you might be wondering what actually happens before, during, and after your session. Don’t worry—I’ve got you.
First things first: Booking
Once you decide you’re ready to book your birth photography session, we’ll set up an in-person meeting to get to know each other and chat about your birth plan, preferences, and what matters most to you. If it feels like a good fit, you’ll sign a contract, pay your retainer, and you’re officially on my calendar!
From there, I’m on call starting at 38 weeks until baby arrives—day or night, holidays included. When labor starts, just keep me in the loop and I’ll head your way once you’re in active labor (usually around 5–6 cm dilated).
During your birth
I’ll quietly slip into your birth space and begin documenting your story. You won’t need to pose or perform—I’m just there to capture everything as it happens: the strength in your body, the love in the room, and the powerful moment you meet your baby. As your Kansas City birth photographer, I’m all about preserving those raw, real moments. After baby arrives, I’ll stay for about 1–2 hours to capture those beautiful firsts—skin-to-skin, feeding, baby’s measurements, and all the fresh snuggles.
After your session: Editing & delivery
After your birth photography session, I back up all your images and start editing them with care. My editing style is clean and natural—just enough to make your story shine without taking away from the authenticity.
Within 2 weeks, you’ll receive a private online gallery with your final images—usually around 100, depending on how long I was there. You’ll be able to download your high-res photos, share them with family, and keep them forever to remember this once-in-a-lifetime day.
Birth is emotional, unpredictable, and absolutely incredible—and it deserves to be remembered and documented. Choosing a birth photographer is a personal decision, and I’m truly honored every time a family invites me to be part of that experience.
If you're looking for a birth photographer in Kansas City who will capture your story with care, love, and zero judgment—I’d be so thrilled to connect. Have questions? Just reach out. I’m always happy to chat.
